What is the point of an electrocardiogram?

The goal of an ECG is to monitor heart rhythm and heart rate, detect arrhythmias or previous heart attacks, and evaluate the effectiveness of existing cardiac treatments. The test is simple and takes only a few minutes; no special preparations are needed. You lie on an examination table while electrodes are placed on arms, legs and chest, and remain still while the signals are recorded. Afterwards, you can immediately resume your daily activities.
