Vascular surgery

Blood vessel disorders, such as stenosis, varicose veins or thrombosis, are common and can have serious consequences if not detected in time. You can come to Medical Centre for expert assessment and treatment of your vascular health, both preventively and for existing symptoms.

What investigations are part of vascular screening?

We map your vascular system with targeted examinations, such as a duplex examination of the blood vessels. Which investigations are necessary depends on your symptoms and risk profile. Each approach is tailor-made, with attention to your safety and comfort.

Anamnesis

During the initial consultation, the doctor gathers information about symptoms, medical history, current medication use and possible family risk factors. Based on this, a clear picture of the vascular care needs emerges and the appropriate examinations can be scheduled.

Clinical research

The doctor performs a physical examination to assess the general state of health and the condition of the blood vessels. This examination is often supplemented by targeted tests and forms the basis for further diagnostics.

Duplex survey

In a duplex examination, we image the blood vessels with ultrasound and measure blood flow. This allows timely detection of constrictions, blockages or dilations of arteries and veins. The examination is painless and can be performed on the neck, abdomen, legs or arms.

Sclerosing

Sclerosing is a treatment for superficial varicose veins. This involves using a fine needle to introduce a special fluid into the vein, causing it to shrivel up and disappear over time. It is an effective and low-impact method.

When do you need a vascular examination?

Pain or cramps in the legs when walking, cold feet or visible varicose veins may indicate an underlying vascular disorder. A consultation with the vascular surgeon helps to recognise these problems early and prevent possible complications, such as:

PAV (peripheral arterial vascular disease) - Narrowed arteries in the legs cause pain when walking, which usually disappears at rest.Aneurysm - A localised dilation of an artery, often the abdominal artery, with risk of rupture. Usually without symptoms, but potentially life-threatening.Carotid stenosis - Narrowing of the carotid artery, which increases the risk of stroke.Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) - A blood clot in a deep vein, often in the leg, that can cause swelling, pain or even a pulmonary embolism.Lymphedema - Fluid accumulation in an arm or leg due to a disrupted lymphatic system, often with swelling, tension or a heavy feeling.

Prevention is better than cure

Vascular problems can often be well treated or even prevented with timely follow-up and a healthy lifestyle. Have your blood vessels checked, especially in case of risk factors such as heredity, smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure or low exercise. In doubt? Schedule a consultation for personalised advice.

How does a consultation with the vascular surgeon go?

1. Intake interview

The consultation starts with a detailed interview. The doctor discusses your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle and any family predisposition to cardiovascular disease. This creates a complete picture of your vascular health so that targeted investigations can follow.

2. Investigate

Depending on your symptoms and risk profile, we perform targeted examinations, such as a duplex ultrasound, blood pressure measurement or blood flow test of arms and legs. These examinations provide insight into the health of your blood vessels and help detect constrictions, varicose veins or other abnormalities.

3. Discussion & follow-up

The doctor discusses the results and explains what they mean for your situation. If necessary, a treatment plan is drawn up, e.g. for sclerosing, surgery or lifestyle modification. You receive a clear report via the eHealth or CoZo platform, and where necessary we plan follow-up examinations or a referral.
